The Garden Mix Topsoil combines sand, soil, and roughly a third of de Jong's Fertil Mulch®. Our soil goes through a 1/2" screen, keeping the soil clean of large rocks, sticks, clay, etc. We test our Garden Mix for heavy metals and pathogens to be rated grade "AA," safe for all types of gardening. The addition of our Fertil Mulch® helps the soil retain moisture and gives extra nutrients. It's a great base soil for all types of gardening: trees, veggies, flowers, grass seed, etc. Whether it be brand new raised beds or adding soil to your existing areas, the Garden Mix is the way to go.
Very important! Please follow the seed directions and your seed specialist's input when growing grass. The secret to a beautiful lawn is water transition. Keep in mind, the basic rule of grass is that the roots need 6" of consistent soil, meaning NO LAYERING. So, it is best to try to incorporate your new soil with your existing soil.
Again, it's very important! Please follow the seed directions and your seed specialist's input when growing grass. When your lawn needs some extra help, our Garden Mix can be used underneath your new seed. In order to not smother your existing grass, it is important to go only 1/2" to 1" deep on top of the existing grass. After putting the Garden Mix down, rake the old grass through (you need to allow your existing grass to poke through in order to keep it alive) and pack the soil. Now, it's ready for new seed. Feel free to sprinkle a very light layer of our Fertil Mulch® over the seed to help retain moisture and keep the birds from eating the seed. During the warm months, the extra Fertil Mulch® helps retain the much-needed moisture. When calculating your yardage, account for settling because of the added Fertil Mulch®. We are here to assist you: give us a call with your measurements. If you are unsure if this is the right product, we suggest you come out and take a look since we want you to be 100% satisfied.
All Purpose Topsoil is a combination of Sand, Soil, and a small amount of compost. The percentage of sand fluctuates depending on the time of year comparing it to a 60/40 Mix. Our soil goes through a 1/2" screen, keeping the soil clean of large rocks, sticks, clay, etc. We test our All Purpose for heavy metals and pathogens to be rated grade "AA," safe for all types of gardening. Since the All Purpose does not settle as much as our Garden Mix, it is great for leveling out uneven areas or filling in holes. It is still a great soil for planting areas while using the Fertil Mulch® as a nutritious topdressing and weed suppressant.
Very important! Please follow the sod directions and your sod specialist's input when growing grass. The all-purpose soil works great for sod because it packs well. During the wet months, the All Purpose is a good choice due to its great draining properties. We are here to assist you: give us a call with your measurements. If you are unsure if this is the right product for you, we suggest you come out and take a look since we want you to be 100% satisfied.
