Cedar Hog Fuel
Our Hog Fuel is 100% Cedar: non-recycled, animal friendly, and clean. It can be used in various ways: horse riding arenas, outside paddocks, dog runs, pathways, as a mulch, and building temporary roads. We describe it as a stringy and fibrous material with larger pieces of wood throughout. Since it doesn't go through a screen, the Hog Fuel is not consistent. This means the quantity of larger pieces and the amount of fibrous pieces change from load to load.
Why Is It Called Hog Fuel?
The wood is put through a machine called a "hog" and then used at pulp mills to generate electricity by burning it as the "fuel." The Hog Fuel we carry is made when the material left over from cedar shakes and shingles is run through a "hogger" and then ground up for the completed product.

Not All Hog Fuel is the Same
Hog Fuel is any species of wood product that can be burned for fuel. Products from other companies may contain wood that breaks down faster, have wood that is toxic to animals, or be made from recycled pallet boards. Ensure you know what you are getting.
